Introduction to the basic types of metal materials


Metal material generally refers to industrial applications of pure metal or alloy. In nature there are about 70 kinds of pure metals, including common are iron, copper, aluminum, tin, nickel, gold, silver, lead, zinc and so on. The alloy material often refers to two or more metal or a combination of metal and non-metal, and a metal properties. Common alloys such as iron and carbon steel alloy consisting of; an alloy of copper and zinc formed is brass.
Basic categories
Metal materials are generally divided into ferrous metals, nonferrous metals and special materials.
① ferrous metal known as iron and steel materials, including more than 90% of the iron pure iron, carbon content of 2% to 4% iron, less than 2% of the carbon steel, as well as the various uses of structural steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant steel, high temperature alloy, precision alloy. Generalized ferrous metals also include chromium, manganese and alloys thereof.
② refers to all non-ferrous metals and their alloys, except iron, chromium, manganese, usually divided into light metals, heavy metals, precious metals, semi-metals, rare metals and rare earth metals. Strength and hardness of non-ferrous alloys generally higher than that of pure metals, and resistance, resistance temperature coefficient.
③ special metal material comprises a metal structural metal materials and functional materials for different purposes. There amorphous metal material obtained by rapid cooling process, as well as quasicrystals, microcrystalline, nanocrystalline metal and other materials; there are stealth, anti-hydrogen, superconducting, shape memory, wear, vibration damping alloys and other special features and metal matrix composites.
